International Woman’s Day

March 8, 2018

Today is international women’s day. I wanted to talk to you today a little bit about what that means to me. Being a woman can sometimes be challenging, exciting, and overwhelming. I often find myself feeling like I want to do so many things but somehow I still feel held back by all of the things that I want to be doing which seems counterproductive.

Sometimes when I am not sure what I want to be doing I try to write down all of the things that are important to me on a list so that I can prioritize them based on what’s most important. The struggle is real because I find that as soon as I do that I start to make a list that is covering multiple pages. This list usually consists of all of the things that I wish I was doing, not just my business, but my personal life as well. I feel that myself and most women get bogged down by all of the day-to-day responsibilities and expectations that are put upon us whether directly or indirectly.

I find myself comparing myself to others even though it’s not what I wish I was doing. I hope that this inspires you a little or in some way, or at least you can relate to me on some type of level when I say that having all these emotions can be so difficult at times. I find myself trying to categorize my feelings as they come but sometimes they literally just take over my entire body and so I’m left with feeling insecure disappointment in myself. It makes me feel sad that I can’t just get everything together.

I realize that the idea of it takes a village really means that if you are super passionate about what you were doing that is a huge milestone in itself. The village is simply there to allow you to pursue your dreams by allowing you the time that it takes to pursue those dreams and aspirations. Doing all these things without feeling all of the overwhelm that comes with managing your family, managing your life, and managing everybody else’s expectations of what you should and shouldn’t be doing. I hope that other women know that they are not alone and that it’s OK to ask for help when it’s needed, or even if you feel it’s not needed.

Today I reached out to a girlfriend of mine who hasn’t really been in my life for that long, but we have become close for a number of reasons. I find myself getting close to her because we relate on so many levels such as business, family, and personalities. I can’t help but think where she’s been most of my life because the feeling that I get when I’m able to speak freely about the troubles that I’m feeling on a day-to-day basis makes me feel better even in the smallest ways and helps me to focus on what’s important. She lets me know that she also feels this way and that she also feels overwhelmed and bogged down by the many expectations that are put on us as women.

I feel like being an entrepreneur is not only exciting, it’s a scary concept for those who are feeling like they’re in it alone. I want you to know that I am here to support you and you can lean on me when you need it, but know that I will be there to lean on you when I need it most. I find myself listening to podcasts with these amazing and talented women such as Jenna Kutcher, Cathy Heller, Robin Baldwin, and Marie Forleo and man do these women all have one thing in common. They have found and listened to themselves and others like them so that they can grow and scale their business in a way that has brought them this platform of success through trial and error, that I dream about.

I get this overwhelming feeling that that is exactly what I want to be doing. The impact that these women have on many lives is so powerful and I realize after each episode that I always walk away with something and it’s usually the same thing. What always comes up is that the struggle is real, the overwhelming is normal, and the path to greatness is within me. So what I found is that in order for me to truly be what I want to achieve I need to focus on doing the tasks that I love and find the village of people who can do all the things that don’t get me out of bed in the morning.

So THANKS to all my girlfriends out there for keeping it real, feeding the kid’s Kraft dinner, and pushing through all of the problems that this world throws at us. Know this, you’re not alone and we will always be there to support one another through all of the good times and the bad. That we should try to do better by celebrating the small wins no matter how small they are because they add up to a whole ball of beautiful goodness.

You do you, and remember that done is better than perfect and you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it. Happy International Women’s Day!
